Plantar sensory threshold in the ulcerative foot.

چکیده
Pressure threshold measurements were made using a set of three Semmes-Weinstein monofilaments on 1 32 plantar u\cer sites in 72 leprosy patients and 45 plantar u\cer sites in 28 diabetic patients. The most common sites of u\ceration were the great toe and first metatarsal head. No patient could feel monofilaments smaller than 6 · \ 0 (75 g) . The next smallest filament, 5 ·07 ( 1 0 g), was identified as the level of protective sensation in leprosy patients who customari1y use footwear. Similar results were shown in a small group of diabetic patients.

Comparing the Effect of New Silicone Foot Prosthesis and Conventional Foot Prosthesis on Plantar Pressure in Diabetic Patients With Transmetatarsal Amputation
Objective Diabetic foot ulcers are significant complications of diabetes that can lead to amputation. Partial foot prostheses can be used to redistribute the plantar pressure on the residual limb to alleviate local pressures and prevent re-amputation at more proximal levels. The current study aimed to describe the fabrication of an original silicone foot prosthesis designed for a diabetic patie...
متن کاملProtective sensation of the plantar aspect of the foot.
The scientific literature suggests that barefoot activity may be beneficial. There is a current trend in recreational barefoot activity in children and adults, and barefoot running among athletes. Although the type of skin over most of the body (hairy skin) seems to be easily injured by painful abrading loads, little is known about protection provided by plantar sensory feedback against damage ...
متن کاملThe threshold for protective sensation that prevents neuropathic ulceration on the plantar aspect of the foot: a study of leprosy patients in a rural community in India.
The protective sensation threshold is an important concept in the prevention of plantar ulceration in leprosy patients. Previous studies have suggested that skin with sensory nerve damage on the plantar aspect of the foot which can still detect the 5.07 Semmes-Weinstein monofilament (approximately 10 g) is highly unlikely to develop ulceration. While the threshold is thought to be less than the...
متن کاملThe effect of cutaneous mechanical stimulations of lateral plantar surface on the excitability of ipsilateral and contralateral motoneurons
Mechanoreceptors of foot sole likely contribute in the reflex regulations. Stimulation of these receptors in the lateral aspect of the foot is corresponded to the lateral plantar division of the tibial nerve. Therefore, it was hypothesized that repetitive low threshold afferents stimulation would have an inhibitory effect on the soleus H-reflexes. Methods: Sixteen normal subjects voluntarily...
متن کاملThe Effect of Different Types of Foot Orthoses on Foot Plantar Pressure in Subjects with Plantar Fasciitis: A Literature Review
Objective Plantar fasciitis is a plantar fascia inflammation and one of the most common causes of heel pain, causing pain in the inner side of the heel bone. The purpose of this investigation was to analyze the effect of different foot orthoses on the distribution of foot pressure in patients with plantar fasciitis. Materials & Methods The systematic search of PubMed, Science Direct and Web of...
